DT Swiss M 502 29" 30 mm Rim

The DT Swiss M 502 29-inch rim is a bare aluminium rim designed for modern Trail, All-Mountain and demanding enduro riding. Ideal for wheel builders on a controlled budget or for replacing an original rim, it lets you enjoy the large 29" format (comfort, rollover ability and speed retention) combined with a very reassuring wide profile.

Its greatest strength lies in its geometry: with 30 mm of internal width, it offers a perfect seating for today's wide tyres. The tyre sidewalls are perfectly stabilised, preventing the tyre from squirming or deforming under heavy cornering loads. You can therefore run lower pressures to maximise grip, traction on technical climbs and overall comfort on rough trails, without sacrificing reliability.

What is the difference between this M 502 and the XM 481? They share the same 30 mm internal width, but differ in their manufacturing method. The XM 481 belongs to the higher-end range: it uses a premium welded joint (SBWT) and PHR reinforcement washers, making it approximately 45 g lighter and more resistant to very heavy impacts (ASTM category 4). The M 502 uses a pinned joint (Pin Joint): it is slightly heavier, but offers exactly the same dynamic advantages of width and tyre balloon at a significantly more affordable price.

What tyre sizes are recommended for the M 502? With 30 mm between the walls, this rim is optimised for tyres measuring between 2.35 and 2.50 in width. It's the perfect combo for achieving excellent carcass deformation, supreme comfort and maximum grip in all terrains.
